This class will be taught with expectations of challenging assignments and sincere student involvement. Students will be expected to complete in-class assignments and out-of-class assignments in the time frame requested by the teacher. Students should respect the ideas of fellow students as this class will rely heavily on classroom discussions about our reading material. Students should be willing to share their opinions as well as respect the opinions of others. Students should not come to school ill, but should make every effort to be in school and on time. It is your responsibility to ask about missed work. Please complete missed assignments in a prompt manner. All grades will be based on a scale of 100. There is NO extra credit in this class. Please understand, as sixth graders, students are expected to be responsible. Work will be verbally explained, posted on the board, and the website will be updated daily. Please do not offer the excuse of “not knowing” about work. It is the student’s responsibility to pay attention. Students will be responsible for all work (even when absent). Please take advantage of my website and feel free to email me with questions concerning your assignments. You are REQUIRED to read for 20 minutes every night. Also, as soon as a quiz/test/project is assigned, I will assume you have started studying/preparing for it. If students fail to achieve or do not perform at an optimal level (either in academics or behavior), there will be a scheduled conference with the teacher, the student, and the parent in order to resolve the issue. Please feel free to contact me at any time. Academic Emphasis:
Improving conventions of writing and grammar usage Reading fiction and non-fiction to improve reading comprehension Reading research materials Improving study skills Vocabulary
